Board of Directors

André Gauthier | President & CEO

Mr. Gauthier holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and has completed the required Masters courses in Project Management from University of Quebec in Montreal. From 1994 to 1996 he was Vice-President of the public junior mining company Q.E.X. Resources Inc. (which became Adventure Gold Inc. in 2007). From 1984 to 1992, he was secretary-treasurer and CFO of Abior Exploration Inc. (which became Exploration Diabior Inc., now merged with Virginia Gold Mines Inc.). He joined Matamec in 2003 as Vice President, Administration and became President and CEO in 2005.

Marcel Bergeron | Secretary, Treasurer & CFO 

Mr. Bergeron, CA, CMA, obtained a Bachelor’s degree in accounting sciences from the University of Quebec in Montreal. He has been a member of the Order of Quebec Chartered Management Accountants (CMA) since June 1981 and the Quebec Order of Chartered Accountants (CA) since December 1983. From 2006 to 2009, he was with Devimco Inc., a commercial real estate development company, as General Manager. From July 1990 to June 2006, he was a partner at Petrie Raymond LLP, chartered accountants, where he participated in the auditing of mining companies. Mr. Bergeron joined the Matamec board in 2009 and has been the company’s CFO since December 2012.

François Biron | Independent Director 

Mr. Biron joined Matamec Explorations Inc. in August 2015 as an independent director. He is a senior professional mining engineer with 40 years of experience in the mining industry. His extensive experience in mining operations has been developed while serving in several senior site-based positions with well-known international mining companies. Among others, he has acquired expertise in the gold, base metals and industrial minerals sectors. Mr. Biron has an entrepreneurial vision oriented towards business development and a perspective of industry growth with respect to the environment.
 
He has participated in the management of major open pit mines, implementing best operating standards to achieve goals and corporate objectives. Mr. Biron recently advanced a new mining project by introducing the social acceptability concept and initiating public consultations in local communities where the project is located, while also leveraging the use of the latest miningautomation technologies and process improvements.

David Guérette | Independent Director 

Mr. Guérette joined Matamec Explorations Inc. in June 2014 as an independent director. He holds a BA in mathematics and economics from the University of Montreal. As an entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in management consulting of human capital for small and large businesses across Canada and the United States, he supports leaders in the development and implementation of business solutions that involve the optimization of organizational performance related to human capital. Mr. Gu´rette is co-founder of InTalent - Human Capital Solutions, a business offering management consulting and HR technology solutions.

Pierre Leblanc | Independent Director 

Mr. Leblanc joined Matamec Explorations Inc. in March 2015 as an independent director, and he is the designated representative of Ressources Québec inc. Mr. Leblanc holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, and has been a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Professional Accountants and the Ordre des comptables professionnels agréés du Québec since 1978.
 
Mr. Leblanc has 37 years’ experience at KPMG, including 29 as an audit partner. He thereby acquired an impressive track record as an auditor of Canadian and American public companies and was a securities audit partner in Canada. Mr. Leblanc directed the audit group for clients operating in the natural resources (forestry and mining) sector. He was also the leader of KPMG initiatives related to Quebec's Plan Nord. Pierre retired from KPMG on October 1, 2013.
 
In the course of his professional career, Mr. Leblanc acted as partner responsible for professional practice at KPMG's Quebec City office for 13 years. He then became one of the professional practice partners at KPMG in Montreal, a position he held for three years before returning full time as Partner responsible for the auditing of Canadian and American public companies. Mr. Leblanc was accredited as a securities audit partner in Canada for over fifteen years and participated in many public offerings (debt and equity), both in Canada and in the United States.

Alain Madgin | Independent Director 

Mr. Madgin joined Matamec Explorations Inc. in November 2016 as an independent director. Mr. Madgin has been a member of the Quebec bar since 1991, after graduating in law from Université Laval. He completed additional training in perception management at Burson-Marsteller University and holds a special certificate from Université Laval’s Collège des administrateurs des sociétés. He also completed a program in pharmaceutical management at Ryerson University in Toronto.
 
Mr. Madgin has more than 25 years of experience in public affairs, lobbying, and management. He has a reputation as a pillar of the communications and public relations industry in Quebec, maintaining close relationships with his clients as a Quebec government relations specialist, and earning recognition and appreciation for his work as a consultant. Alain has an excellent grasp of the national and provincial political issues influencing such sectors as health, natural resources, the environment, finance, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Normand Tamaro | Independent Director

Mr. Tamaro joined Matamec Explorations Inc. in June 2009 as an independent director. Called to the Quebec Bar in 1982 and LL.D since 1995, Mr. Tamaro is in private practice with the legal firm Mannella, Gauthier, Tamaro where he specializes in intellectual property law. He is the author of many articles and several books, in French and in English, regarding copyright.
