Valmont - History
The old Candego mine is located on Matamec’s claims was exploited from 1948 to 1952 by Candego Mines Ltd. and Consolidated Mines Ltd. Candego for base metals in quartz-carbonate veins crosscutting argillites on the sidelines of a felsic intrusion. The mine produced over 62,000 tonnes of ore (5.93 % Pb, 3.45 % Zn et 172.2 g Ag / t). In the late 1950s, two samples of 1.25 and 1.0 tons were collected near the mouth of Porcupine creek. The grade of the samples collected yielded, respectively, 6.85 g Au / t, 189.22 g Ag / t, 10.11 % Pb, 0.67 % Cu, 7.08 % Zn et 7.89 g Au / t, 187.85 g Ag / t, 10.78 % Pb, 0.67%, 8.52 % Zn.Since its acquisition in2002, Matamec built a geochemical compilation using 66% of 4700 biogeochemical samples collected in the 1980s. The Company then did five biogeochemical surveys in order to expand coverage. Matamec collected 825 samples in January 2007, 158 samples in June 2007, 1302 samples in December 2010 and 94 samples in July 2011. During the last campaign, there also reaped 53 rock samples.
