Matamec-Gold-Emerald-Diamond
07/05/01 - VAL D'OR- QUEBEC--Matamec wishes to inform you that exploration work on the Sakami property began three weeks ago and will carry on over a 3-month period. Three phases (or 3 metals) are aimed by this exploration campaign, that is: gold, emerald and diamond. In fall, a drilling campaign will follow this exploration work.
GOLD
Most of the funds allotted to the exploration campaign will be invested for the exploration of gold. Geological mapping, stripping (overburden) and prospecting will carry on all summer. The company will concentrate its energy to better detailing known zones (zones 23, 25 and 26) and to prospect the gold corridor (Sakami fault) where zones 23, 24, 25 and 26 as well as Péninsule and J.-R. showings (respectively 1,5 and 10 km North of zone 25) are found. Matamec holds more than 35 km of that corridor (Sakami fault) and more than 90% of the corridor is still unexplored.
EMERALD
At the beginning, the Sakami property was chosen for its high emerald potential. The significant gold discovery changed all the plans and the emerald investigation was postponed. However, Matamec will carry out emerald exploration this summer. During the last two years, the gold exploration work permitted the identification of two new sites very conducive to emerald discovery. In fact, we find in the same environment the presence of beryl bearing pegmatite and ultramafic chromiferous rocks.
DIAMONDS
Finally, the company will carry out a diamond exploration overview. The Sakami property is located in the Wemindji-Caniapiscau corridor which was found by the Quebec government researchers (Ministry of Natural Resources) and identified as having a very interesting diamondiferous potential.
